If you have an interest in Music Performance, then this is the course for you. Whether you are a singer-songwriter, jazz pianist, classical violinist, rock drummer or blues guitarist, we welcome all instruments and all genres. Over the 2-year course, you will have the opportunity to develop your own artistic voice through regular rehearsals and live performances. Alongside this, you will study music theory and learn a range of compositional techniques to furnish you with the skills to write and record your own songs/pieces.
At New College, you will have access to a dedicated rehearsal space, including an electric drum kit, microphones, amps and 2 pianos. You will also have access to Mac Minis running Sibelius and Logic Pro X, which will help you in your studies of theory and composition.
At the end of the 2-year course, you will leave with a body of work which will support you in your journey as an artist. The work that you create on this course will also support you in applications for Higher Education.
All work is coursework-based and assessed by your tutor. There are no written exams. You must complete all units and assessment criteria to gain the full qualification.
Entry requirements
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4/C, including Maths and English Language. Admission to the course will be subject to an audition where you will be expected to demonstrate your instrumental skill.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of this course, you will receive an RSL Extended Certificate in the Creative Music Industry, which is the equivalent of one A Level. This will enable you to progress to a higher-level qualification or directly into employment.
