Student Union & Student Voice

Get involved in college life and help improve the college experience for all. Being part of our Student Union and Student Voice is an excellent opportunity to get your voice heard, it looks great on your CV and university applications and you get to meet people outside of your course.

Student Union

Our Students’ Union helps to make key College-wide decisions and leads College awareness campaigns. They also lobby local and national government (via the National Students Union, NUS) on important student rights issues. The team is made up of elected students and is led by a Student President and Vice President.

Our mission: We are here to ensure college is a place you belong and truly feel a part of our diverse population. Our job is to represent NCS ‘CARES’ values and to support all learners, being kind too everyone! To this end, our value statement is as follows:

“At New college Swindon, we value YOU, it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you believe. We value everyone because we’re better together than apart.” NCS SU 2022

The college’s student union is managed by the NCS Exec committee. The NCS Exec is run by students for all students. We’re here to listen, discuss and share your thoughts with NCS Executive Management Team to ensure positive improvements are made here at New College.

Student Voice

The Student Voice scheme allows us to hear your views so we can continuously improve your experience. There are several ways that you can be involved

  • Complete surveys
  • Take part in pop-up feedback activities and focus groups
  • Become a student rep
  • Join a task force group
  • Represent a group on the Exec
  • Run for Student Governor.

Student Governors work with the Student President and our Exec team. They also sit on our Board of Governors, so your voice is heard by the most senior teams in the college.

We also have the Student Executive Task Forces where you can become part of the Student Council and specialise in a specific role at College. You can represent areas such as Environmental and Recycling, LGBTQ+, Inclusivity and many more. Become an advocate for something you believe in, make a positive impact and evidence leadership skills in your UCAS personal statement or CV.
