Are you still deciding if you want to go to Drama School and have a career in Acting? Then this course could be for you! It is the equivalent of 1.5 A-Levels and allows you to keep your options open by studying up to two other A-Level subjects alongside the course.
This course is an essential foundation for anyone wanting to become a skilled Actor. It is designed to develop your knowledge of different acting styles and practitioners as well develop your rehearsal and performance skills. Alongside this you will explore the social and cultural factors that have influenced the development of drama and critically analyse performance work.
Your classes will have a practical focus and assessments will involve live and filmed performances to an audience and to camera, research, presentations, podcasts, logs and vlogs!
As a first-year learner you will focus heavily on exploring two contrasting acting styles. This means you will take lessons exploring acting skills and techniques for stage and screen. Once a good technical grounding has been established the creative element of the course will come into play and as a performer you will develop performance material in response to a set brief. Alongside this, you will complete theoretical work on the Industry of Acting. This module will help you to develop the professional skills and knowledge to join the industry and succeed within it.
In the second year of the course, you will continue industry work by exploring Theatre in Education and have the opportunity to plan and organise your own community performance project. The emphasis of the second year is on the creative element which is assessed in a final, larger scale project. As performers, you will collaborate with each other and other departments to create a final acting showcase made up of your own work which will demonstrate the skills developed over two years.
