Music Production Level 3 Extended Certificate (A Level Equivalent)
This course is included within the Creative Studies A Level pathway as a RECOMMENDED CORE subject. It is included in the following pathways as a RECOMMENDED ADDITIONAL SUBJECT: Design and Media; English and Communications; Performing Arts. However, you can take Digital Music Production with any A Level/equivalent combination â there is plenty of choice and flexibility.
If you have a keen interest in Music Technology, then this is the course for you. It is also suitable if you wish to study modern digital styles of music production such as house, hip hop, drum & bass, electronica, as well as traditional studio recording techniques. Musicians with a strong interest in modern composition techniques will find the course useful, as well as singer songwriters wishing to produce their own music.
You will develop your Music Technology skills in several areas by studying four main units:
You will also have additional lessons in Listening to Music, Music Theory, The History of Music Production, and Careers in the Music Business.
You will build a portfolio of work, which will support any university or job application. You will be studying in a dedicated Music Technology Suite, based around Apple Mac workstations running the latest Logic Pro X software. You will also have access to two Apple M1-equipped multi-track recording studios, with a range of instruments and amplifiers.
All work is coursework-based and assessed by your tutor, with no written exams. You must complete all units and assessment criteria to gain the full qualification.

Entry requirements
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4/C including Maths and English Language. However, if you can show previous experience or a strong desire to study the subject, we will be happy to interview you.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of this course, you will receive an RSL Extended Certificate in the Creative Music Industry, which is the equivalent of one A Level. This will enable you to progress to a higher-level qualification or directly into employment.
Additional resources/costs
You will be expected to supply your own stationery and a set of headphones. All books and other equipment are supplied by the college.
