Uniformed Protective Services BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma Year 1/Extended Diploma Year 2

On this course, you will learn about the uniformed services and the role that they play in society – including the political and social influences on them. You will develop a wide range of skills and knowledge about human behaviour, alongside leadership skills and learning how to plan and undertake an expedition.

You will take part on lots of outdoor activities and physical training, helping you to develop the resilience and fitness needed to meet the entry requirements for the uniformed protective services.

This course will provide you with direct and practical pathway to a career in this rewarding sector, including practical skills and theoretical knowledge.

Units of Study will Include: Citizenship and Diversity, Behaviour and Discipline, Police Powers, Planning for & Responding to Emergency Service Incidents, Government & the Protective Services, Custodial Care, Physical Preparation and Teamwork & Leadership.

This programme includes around 13 hours of study per week. You will be assessed by a variety of methods, including assignments and practical activities. You will get one grade for each unit (Distinction, Merit or Pass) and two of the units are assessed externally via examination in Year 1 of the programme.

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSEs at a Grade 4/C or above (which must contain English Language & Maths) or a Merit (or above) on a Level 2 Diploma programme (inc. English & Maths at Grade 4 or above).

Future career and study opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead you directly to a career in one of the Public Services - The Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Prison Service, Armed Forces, Customs, Security Services or the Probation Service.

Alternatively, you can progress to a Higher Education programme including an HND in Public Services at Queens Drive; you can then achieve a full degree by topping this up to a Level 6 qualification.
