Sport and Public Services Diploma in Vocational Studies

This is a one-year course will enable you to develop your academic & life skills, as well as provide you with an introduction to Sport and Public Services.

You will be involved with lots of exciting, highly practical activities and lessons throughout your course, undertaking a carousel of units. Course topics include: Being Organised; Developing A Personal Progression Plan; Working With Others; Researching A Topic; Playing Sport; Assisting in a sports activity; Keeping active & healthy; Taking part in fitness testing; Responding to an incident; Developing Digital Information Using IT.

All units are assessed internally through practical work, written logbooks & recorded scenario-based tasks.

In additional to the study programme, it is also possible for you to trial for the New College Academies in Football and Basketball. Training sessions are embedded into the timetable where possible.

You will be able to make use of the excellent facilities in the sports department, including full size sports hall, 3G pitch and fully equipped fitness gym. You will be using a wide variety of professional materials, tools and equipment throughout your course - both during your lessons and at college events.

Entry requirements

You will need a real desire to undertake practical learning activities and have a keen interest in developing your knowledgein Sport and Public Services.

Future career and study opportunities

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 2 course such as NCFE Diploma in Sport or a BTEC in Public Services at Level 2.

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but many of the skills you will learn are essential to employability. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements that will support the course.

Additional resources/costs

You will need to a New College Sports top for indoor sessions, moulded boots for the 3G pitch, indoor footwear for sports hall and gym use and other suitable and appropriate sports kit. Financial assistance is available if needed, please speak to our enrolment team.
