This course is designed to support young people who have additional needs become more independent and prepare for their future as an adult. The course will support them in learning the skills they need to operate in modern society and live a fulfilling life in the community. This is a very practical course which takes the approach of learning by doing and enables students to reflect on their abilities as they grow and develop. Activities and events they will take part in will include, running a college café, growing vegetables to sell and cook, trips and visits into the community, community projects, workplace experience days to learn about the world of work and learning to travel on public transport. As well as working towards the Open Awards Entry 3 Certificate in Skills for Further Learning and Employment. Students will also continue to work on the maths and English skills they need to live an independent life.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, but students should be generally working at entry level or level one.

Work experience/Careers Extra
This course works to develop students so that they will be able to take on a work experience placement in the future. It contains activities that will enable students to learn about the world of work, including workplace experience days and taking part in enterprise projects.
