Online talks set to inspire creative students!

10 Feb 2021

Students at New College Swindon are getting inspired by industry experts and previous pupils who have returned as guest speakers to offer advice and inspire like-minded fellows.

Art and Design, Media and Photography students have the opportunity to interact with a variety of different creatives to converse about their experiences and knowledge to achieve the successes they have to date.

Clare Ashley, who is a Course Leader at the College, has been instrumental in orchestrating these online talks.

Clare said: “Originally the guest speaker events were only meant to last two weeks, but when we went into a third lockdown, I really wanted to give my students something to look forward to in the week.

“It’s amazing to be able to give our students this experience. Each speaker gives the students a better understanding as to what courses they need to study and how to get the right work experience.

“It's a valuable experience every time.”

Some of the topics that the speakers focus on include their University experiences, their business and the kit needed to do their jobs, and a spectrum of inspirational images from their portfolio – sometimes the talks even lead to the offer of gaining work experience.

Clare added: “I can't thank these speakers enough for their time for my students, it really makes me so happy to give the students something that as a student myself 20 years ago I would have loved to have.”

There are plenty of online talks from industry experts coming up; this week they have Photojournalist, Ben Birchall, Prof Richard Billingham and Art Director Romaine Lillie, who has worked for many prestigious publications, including Italian Vogue, Russian Vogue and Elle.
