New College Swindon students studying Esports courses at the North Star campus were delighted to access new dedicated labs today to aid their learning.
The specialist labs have top of the range equipment, which includes Dell IP gaming machines, Corsair gaming chairs, X Box Series X, Oculus VR headsets and technology and OLED Nintendo Switch consoles.
Esports is one of the fastest growing industries globally and is estimated to rake in over $1.3 billion in revenues worldwide by the end of this year. It is estimated that around 8% of the Esports global market is accounted for by the UK. New College offers BTEC Diplomas in Esports courses at both Level 3 and Level 2 and has experienced considerable success in national tournaments, winning the national Digital Schoolhouse Esports Super Smash Bros tournament in 2020 and reaching the grand final in other years.
Chris Baxter, Programme Leader said:
“This new Esports lab provides a great opportunity for learners to gain real life player experience using the latest kit. There’s also the opportunity for them to explore a range of careers within Esports, including shoutcaster, pro gamer, tournament referee, coach, and event manager. This year, we will also be entering the Valorant British Esports championships.”
