New College Swindon’s Catering and Hospitality students raise hundreds for Swindon Food Collective.

In December, Catering and Hospitality students worked hard to prepare a festive three-course dining experience, with optional cocktails, producing a quintessential Christmas menu with all the fundamentals.

The Restaurant saw diners enjoying the iconic retro snowball cocktail, crackers being cracked and the sound of good cheer as our patrons enjoyed good food, good company, and of course excellent hospitality. Diners were invited to take part in a raffle, with the proceeds going to Swindon Food Collective, a local non-profit helping provide food for those in need in Swindon and the surrounding area.

The Christmas meals offered a glimpse back to the normalcy of Christmas past, with family and friends at the dinner table. Patrons were treated to a selection of starters, mains, and desserts each course carefully curated to match the seasonal festivities, with the crowning dish being the ubiquitous Christmas staple, the turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Shortly before the service came to an end, the winners of the raffles were announced – and the tins of chocolates handed to the victors.

Thanks to the generosity of our patrons, the hard work of our catering and hospitality students and staff, we were able to raise £400 towards the Swindon Food Collective's efforts and presented the cheque to them last week.

Faith Marles, Hospitality Lecturer said:

"We ran a series of dates in late November to the end of term for our festive dining experience. This attracted a wide range of clients from across Swindon as well as College staff and students and the students worked very hard to serve up Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. I'm absolutely delighted that we were able to raise so much money for this great charity, which helps to provide food for families in need."
