New College Student Presents Talk on Swindon Youth Council

19 Jan 2022

New College student Evie Burke-Moore delivered a talk to current Pre-16 students about the benefits of joining the Youth Council and how young people can get their voice heard in their local community.

Swindon Youth Council provide 11 to 19 year olds the opportunity to discuss issues that matter to them and young people across the Borough of Swindon, and have their concerns listened to and acted upon. Members will develop skills in reading reports, forming arguments and campaigning for change.

Evie, who is currently studying GCSE English and Maths, was inspired to join the Youth Council after finishing Pre-16 at New College and realising that young people could and should be able to have their say. Commenting on her experience, Evie said “I wanted my voice heard so badly, but nobody was listening. Pre-16 at New College gave me the self-confidence and self-worth to speak out, so I joined the Youth Council”.
