NCS: Tell us a bit about your current role at New College Swindon
EB: “My role is varied, but mainly includes processing withdrawal and completer forms, setting targets and tracking Functional Skills students, as well as checking data to ensure students are on track to finish by their end date, updating the central tracker and sending out incentive forms to employers.
I’m really enjoying my role as every day is different and each week there’s something new.”

What has been the most valuable skill or lesson you’ve learned so far?
Time management! As I have several tasks that need to be completed each week, it’s paramount that I manage my time wisely. I’ve worked out a routine for myself which seems to be working well and enables me to stay on top of my tasks.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most, and why?
I really enjoy communicating with a range of people about various things. It makes the job exciting and helps me with my responsibilities.
Can you describe a challenge you’ve faced and how you have overcome it?
Managing multiple tasks that different people set me! When I first started, I didn’t know how to manage my time effectively. I had various work to complete in a specific time frame, so I had to work out how I was going to manage each task. I now plan my days effectively and ensure I prioritise the most important jobs first.
How has the apprenticeship helped you develop professionally and personally?
I feel I’ve developed both professionally and personally. I’ve pushed myself out of my comfort zone. Going into this role, I had little to no experience working in an office due to recently graduating from a performing arts university. My IT skills have developed and we have access to regular training sessions, such as Excel.
How do you see this apprenticeship influencing your future career goals?
After my apprenticeship, I’d be interested in exploring different roles within apprenticeship team or the employability team.
