Football academy pre season update07 Aug 2020
The squad have been training with social distancing in place since July, with a number prospective players joining sessions, looking to secure a place within the team. The FA guidance recently changed to allow for competitive training and play, which has given the coaching team chance to review players and can confirm they are very pleased with how things are shaping up.
The Football Academy Head Coach, Ryan Elliott, said: “We have now been training for over a month, with technical and fitness sessions, to allow for social distancing. It’s been good to see the players in a competitive environment, following the recent changes in FA guidance. This has allowed us to return to contact training and plan pre season friendlies before our leagues re start in September.
We have a number of games pencilled in, but we started yesterday with an in-house friendly against a team of former Academy players, that have progressed on from the programme in the last 2 years. I would like to thank these players for returning to give our current squad and prospective players a good test, which they definitely overcome.
Myself and Assistant Coach, Rich, are pleased with the progress that has been made and how the squad is taking shape.
The season looks set to begin on time in September and with a number of potential players still training with the squad, it allows some time for the coaching team to take a look at and assess these players. The Academy will be having a recruitment drive in September to pick up one or two players that may have slipped the net, with more players expected to register their interest during enrolment.
