Adult Education Centre Partner With Thames Water to Create More Job Opportunities

After connecting at a recent Job fair in 2025, the Adult Education Centre (part of New College Swindon) has worked closely with Thames Water to create pathways into employment for NCS students undertaking a Customer Service course. At the end of their course, students will have an interview with Thames Water, building their confidence in interview techniques and showing them the employment opportunities available. Successful interviewees may be offered employment.

Matt Butcher, Vice Principal Commercial Skills and Partnerships at NCS, comments on the importance of working closely with local employers. He says, “Developing these relationships with employers is crucial to the evolution of the curriculum and the learners’ journey to their future career by giving our students the opportunities to ensure they understand the workplace and are developing the exact skills for their chosen careers.”

What is the Adult Education Centre?

Based in the centre of Swindon, the Adult Education Centre provides opportunities for adults who want to build their confidence and skill set after a break in education or a lifestyle change. The team supporting those working towards a better life works with several local businesses to ensure the curriculum is up to date and aligned with employment opportunities available in Swindon and the surrounding areas.

Adult Education Centre Manager, Ed Kirk Browne, says, “This partnership is mutually beneficial. Our learners are offered valuable pathways into employment, while providing Thames Water with a ready-made cohort of motivated and well-prepared potential recruits.”

Gosia Dworska, Head of Emerging Talent & Skills at Thames Water, said: “Since reconnecting with New College Swindon’s Adult Education Centre in October 2025, we’ve been working closely with Customer Service students to build their confidence and showcase the career opportunities available with Thames Water. This partnership is a great example of how working directly with local education providers can create clear pathways into employment. By offering interviews at the end of the course, we’re giving learners practical experience and the chance to take their first step into a rewarding career, while strengthening our own talent pipeline and supporting skills development in the community.”
