New College Swindon’s Adult Education Centre (AEC) recently ran a five-week Healthy Lifestyle Course at Phoenix Enterprise, a mental health and learning disability charity. Over the five weeks, 11 students learned how to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing, covering topics such as stress awareness, positive mindsets, healthy eating, exercise and general wellbeing.
Mark Burton, Service User Support Manager at Phoenix Enterprise, was seeking suitable courses for his clients when the Adult Education Centre came up with a bespoke course to suit their needs. Clare McDougall, the CEO at Phoenix Enterprise, said, “Our service users, without exception, loved the course. It was great to see them thinking about the choices they make regarding food, sleep, and exercise and committing to making small improvements. The lecturer at the AEC built a great rapport with them and delivered engaging sessions.
Flexibility for adult learners at New College Swindon is a high priority. We understand how difficult it can be to juggle family life and other priorities whilst trying to climb the career ladder, or simply finding the confidence to get back into work. Our dedicated centre for adults has helped turn the lives of many around.
Ed Kirk Browne, Centre Manager at the AEC, said, “This course has enabled our centre to reach several adult learners who might not have otherwise been given access to training. By delivering on-site at Phoenix Enterprise, we were able to design a bespoke course that met their exact needs. Providing training in a familiar and comfortable environment ensured that learners felt supported and were fully engaged throughout.
Looking ahead, we are keen to offer another course in September.
