About the Course

This course is for those with a genuine interest and enthusiasm in preparing and cooking food and want to become to become a Professional Chef. With a current huge skills shortage in this modern and exciting industry, job opportunities are endless in a variety of areas e.g. Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs, Cruise ships, Bars and even the Armed Forces.

You will work in our professional kitchens alongside fully qualified Chefs/Lecturers, who will support you whilst you prepare and cook a variety of local and international dishes. Our College Restaurant will also give you the opportunity to develop your customer service skills. During the course you will attend demonstrations by current industry Chefs and Employer presentation, take part in competitions and attend trips which will give you enhanced knowledge of the industry.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and Maths, or equivalent.

Where next?

You can progress to Level 3 Professional Cookery or Level 3 Patisserie & Confectionery which normally takes an additional one year full or part-time study. An Advanced Apprenticeship normally takes an additional one year of part time study, and Level 3 Restaurant Management Award, which normally takes an additional one year of full time study.

This course contains work experience and other activities to help you develop employability skills.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
