About the Course
This course is for those who work, or want to work, as professional chefs and are looking for a basic understanding of the industry, in order to progress in a job, or move on to further study. This qualification will build on your interest and passion for the Hospitality and catering sector industry.
The core units studied, include:
Food safety
Health & Safety Awareness
Healthier foods and special diets
Preparing and cooking food using a variety of cooking methods
Working with fresh and pre-prepared ingredients
Cold food preparation.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 2/E and above, including English and Maths, as well as a successful interview.
Where next?
On successful completion you can apply for the Diploma in Professional Cookery at Level 2, or an Apprenticeship, or go into Hospitality and catering at a junior level.
Work Experience and Employability
This course contains work experience and other activities to help you develop employability skills.
What additional resources will I need?
Chef Whites including Chef Tunic, Apron, Hat, Trousers, Skull Cap, Safety Shoes
Restaurant Uniform
Full set of knives and cooking equipment.
Depending upon household income you may be able to apply for a bursary to pay for the uniform and equipment required.
Fees information
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
