Course Summary

This course is held at the Adult Learning Centre (ALC), based Ground Floor, Focal Point, 27-35 Fleet Street, Swindon SN1 1RQ.

Have you ever wanted to put a shelf up or cut a tile and realised you don’t know how? How many of us have needed a handyman at some stage and had to pay for their services? This course will enable and empower you to pick up a drill, power screwdriver, jigsaw and an angle grinder and use it confidently and safely to complete your project.

'PPE, including the wearing of face coverings, may be required for this course. We will advise closer to the course start date in accordance with Government guidelines and the course tutor's personal requirements'


Entry requirements

Learners who are terrified of Power Tools and who would like to learn basic DIY skills.


Course content

This course will offer explanations, demonstrations and a practical chance to ‘have a go’ with the following tools:-

  • Impact Drill
  • Hammer Drill
  • Power Screwdriver
  • Jigsaw
  • Angle Grinder (demonstration only)

Your tutor will explain about different scenarios for the use of each item and give details about various fixings and grip materials. Protective equipment will also be demonstrated.
