About the Course

This course will suit you if you wish to embark on a career within the Carpentry and Wood trades sector. The qualification covers the basic fundamental practical skills and knowledge required by someone aspiring to be a Carpenter. It covers a range of subjects including: Health, safety and welfare, Technical information, quantities and communication, Knowledge of construction technology. You will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in Producing woodworking joints,
Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools, Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools. The course will enable you to develop craft and hand-skills before progressing into further learning within Carpentry and Wood trades. All of the units develop your practical skills and enable you to demonstrate your ability to complete common tasks within the industry.

The assessment requirements set for this qualification are multiple choice knowledge tests and practical assignments.

During your course of study, you will be involved in demonstrations, practical work, theory lessons, computer sessions, tutorials, and project work. You will also have timetabled sessions in English, Maths, work experience and enrichment as part of your Study Programme.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above including Maths and English.

Where next?

On successfully passing the course you can progress to study at Level 2 or gain an apprenticeship.

Work Experience and Employability

As part of the overall Study Programme you will complete 30 hours of work experience.

What additional resources will I need?

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided, including safety boots and a hi viz waistcoat. You would be expected to equip yourself with stationary

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.
