About the Course
This course will give you the opportunity to achieve the Bricklaying Diploma at Level 2 and is primarily aimed at students who wish to pursue employment in the Construction Industry and achieve a nationally recognised qualification in Bricklaying. If you are looking for a varied outdoor career, where anyone may and often does gets to the top, using a combination of energy, ability and sound training, then this is the career for you. The course delivery will include: Demonstrations, Practical Workshops, Theory, Assignments, Job related knowledge and project work.
Students will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of practical skills both at College and on building sites in real working conditions.
Areas of work include:
- Half-brick (4-inch), and one-brick (9-inch) walling
- Piers, copings and cappings
- Cavity walling
- Jointing and pointing
- Damp-proof courses
- Wall ties and insulation.
You will also have timetabled sessions in English and Maths, work experience and enrichment as part of your programme.
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths.
Diploma Level 3 in Bricklaying for higher performing students. An Apprenticeship programme if you have a work placement, returning to college on day release.
Work Experience and Employability
Work experience can be arranged through the College as part of your qualification.
What additional resources will I need?
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
