This course is for people interested in working with children from birth to 19 years (or 25 under SEND). In your first year you will develop the skills needed for a wide range of careers that involve the care and education of young children. In Year Two you will choose an occupational specialism of either Early Years Educator or Assistant Teaching. The course involves a work-based approach, where the majority of your learning will take place in our onsite nursery or IT suite. This gives you the opportunity to practise the skills and qualities required for working in the Education and Childcare Industry. At the end of Year One you will complete two exams and an Employer Set Project. In Year Two you will do an Employer Set Project based on your occupational specialism. You will be required to complete 315 placement hours on the Assistant Teaching Occupational Specialism and 750 on the Early Years Educator Occupational Specialism, where you will also be awarded your licence to practise on successful completion.
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs grade 4/C or above, including English Language and Maths.
Where next?
This course can lead directly to jobs including early years educator, teaching assistant and many more. You may find work as a nursery nurse or childcare worker, with voluntary and private agencies or with families. You may also be able to access Higher Education, and progress to professional training in Early Years, such as Infant or Primary school teaching.
Work experience and employability
Work experience placements are valuable to develop your employability skills and enhance your CV. This course includes an assessed work experience component.
Whilst studying on the T Level you will gain practical experience in an industry placement throughout the course, in a maximum of 2 different placement settings. During your course, your placement days will be carried out over two full days each week. You will be required to complete 315 placement hours on the Assistant Teaching Occupational Specialism and 750 on the Early Years Educator Occupational Specialism, where you will also be awarded your licence to practice on successful completion.
What additional resources will I need?
You will be expected to cover the travel costs. You may want to buy the T Level textbook, this is available on Amazon. You will be required to wear a uniform when on-site and in placement, this will be a polo shirt and the cost will be confirmed when you start.
Fees information
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
