About the course

T Levels are brand new courses developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for work. If you are interested in working with children, this course will allow you to develop the knowledge and underpinning concepts, theories and principles as well as core skills for the education and childcare sector. Your core work will give you essential knowledge and skills of Child development, Safeguarding, Behaviours, Parents and families and Reflective practice.

You will complete one occupational specialism, either; Early Years Educator or AssistingTeaching.
Early Years and education focuses on developing positive relationships with young people, supporting and promoting play, development and early education, safeguarding and professional working relations.

Assisting teaching develops the knowledge and skills to support class teachers to enhance children and young people’s education both individually and in groups. You will also plan, provide and review educational opportunities, recognise, adapt and respond to individual needs including those with educational needs and disabilities.

You will be assessed through written examination, an employer-set project and synoptic assignments.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English Language. You will also be required to complete a DBS check.

Where next?

A degree-level course such as a FD or BA in Early Years or professional training in Early Years, such as Infant or Primary school teaching. Alternatively, the course can lead directly to a career in Early Years education as a nursery nurse or childcare worker.

Work experience and employability

You will complete practical experience in placement settings of a minimum of 750 hours for the Early Years Educator pathway and 315 for the Assisting Teaching Pathway- allowing you to apply theory to real-world practice and achieve licence to practice.

What additional resources will I need?

You will require stationary and a Memory Stick and a willingness to travel and work both on the Queens Drive campus and in Childcare settings. You will also need to purchase a Childcare Team polo shirt with the college logo on to be used when on placement.
