About the course

This highly visual course is suitable for all students who have a passion for Fashion, TV, special effects, Film and Theatrical Make-up, as well as an interest in theatre production and art. You will be involved with lots of exciting, highly practical projects, live briefs, shows and lessons throughout your course.

Some of the units are as follows: Make-up application skills and creative uses in performance; Special effects make up; Costume Design; Mask Making; Full body make-up for performers; Production arts work shop; Production arts planning; Hairstyling and dressing for performer; Fantasy hair design for performers; Period make-up or performing arts; Production for theatre performance; Make-up using prosthetics; Period hair design and wig making for performers; Make-up for performers; Performing arts business; The historical context of performance.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 including English Language, or successful completion of Level 2.

Where next?

This course could lead you directly into a career within the makeup industry or gives you the qualification to progress onto our HND Media Make-up programme or a HND/degree level course as it is recognised by universities.

Work experience and employability

This course does not contain a specific work experience component, but due to the nature of the specialism work experience opportunities come up adhoc throughout the year. Learners also work on the college productions as well as their own end of year show to help develop employability skills.

What additional resources will I need?

You will need to purchase a make-up kit, a make-up brush kit and a hair kit, costing around £500. You are also asked to contribute towards the costs of trips.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
