About the course

This course can help you decide if a job in insurance or banking, or as a financial advisor is for you. It is recognised by universities and ‘worth’ the same number of UCAS points as standard A Levels. In addition, it may help you make better-informed choices about your own finances. If you want a career in Financial Services or just want to learn how to make confident decisions about your finances, then this is the course for you!

Unit One: Financial Capability for the Immediate and Short Term

Unit Two: Financial Capability for the Medium and Long Term

The course covers topics such as saving and borrowing products, different types of bank account, investment products, dealing with long term risk, financial planning, consumer protection and ethics & sustainability in financial services.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade 4 including English Language and Maths

Where next?

The course can lead directly to a career in Financial Services and it may help you decide if a job in insurance or banking, or as a Financial Advisor, is right for you. It could also lead to a place at University studying Banking, Finance, Accounting and/or Business, and it will definitely make you more financially capable. Successful candidates can progress to year 2 to gain Diploma in Financial Studies (equivalent to full A Level).

Work experience and employability

It is expected that all students will undertake one week of industry work experience in their second year.

What additional resources will I need?

There are a few extra expenses, including a trip in both years – estimated cost £20 each.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.
