IT Solutions Professional Level 3 Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a cost-effective means of delivering industry training to both new and existing employees, with a proven track record of increasing employee retention, productivity, and reducing the skills gap.

An IT Solutions Technician provides support to internal and external customers, helping them to be productive when using technology to do their own jobs, by using tools to problem solve and trouble shoot non routine problems. The Infrastructure Technician sets people up on systems and provides support when they need it, rectifying issues to maintain the organisations productivity.

Example Job Roles

Typical job roles include, Helpdesk Technician, First or Second Line Support, IT Infrastructure Technician and Network Support.

Programme Requirements

Must have 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and ICT at grade 9 - 4 (A*- C) or be willing to undertake Functional Skills Level 2. We have to make sure that the Apprentice has the potential to achieve the different elements that make up the Apprenticeship qualification, and that they are working at the right level in their job role. It is a requirement to complete an initial assessment in English and Maths, and this may lead to taking some additional diagnostic assessments.

Typical Duration

12-18 months to complete, depending on the employer and apprentice needs.

Apprenticeship Content

This apprenticeship standard has been developed with the help of employers such as The Royal Signals, Microsoft, Cisco, John Lewis, the RAF, Optimity, Hewlett Packard, HMRC, the Home Office, Oracle, the NHS, IBM, Cap Gemini, Freedom Communications, BT, Arqiva.

There are a number of elements to each Apprenticeship and this is called a Standard. This Standard includes:

A knowledge based qualification

  • Module - Business Processes

  • Module - Coding and Logic

  • Module - Operating Systems

  • Vendor qualifications (MTA Network Fundamentals and MTA Cloud Fundamentals (To achieve Microsoft Azure Apprenticeship)

On Programme Assessment

  • Portfolio of evidence

  • Assessment of behaviours and skills

  • Technical knowledge and understanding

  • Technical competencies

  • Customer Service module

Functional Skills

  • Maths, English at Level 2

End-point assessment

  • Synoptic project

  • Summative portfolio

  • Employer reference

  • Interview

What can an apprentice do next?

Go on to a Higher Apprenticeship in Network Engineering. This Apprenticeship is recognised for entry onto the Register of IT Technicians.
