The programme is for anyone who is interested in improving their listening skills and wants to improve their communication and understanding of others at work, or with family and friends. It is a useful way of finding out something about counselling for those who are considering further training or a career change.
If you think you are in need of counselling yourself, this is probably not the time to be considering a counselling course. If you have recently experienced emotional difficulties or psychological problems, you may find the contents of the course difficult to cope with at this time. Progression
Progression onto: Counselling level 2
Entry requirements
Everyone is welcome on this course. It is totally active with students practising skills and participating in discussion each week. There is no exam: students are required to write a weekly journal of about a page after each session. Successful completion of the course qualifies students to apply for Level 2 in Counselling. You must attend 4 out of 5 sessions to achieve. Please note you will need to be qualified to at least level 2 in Literacy in order to progress to the Level 2 Counselling. It is also very important that you attend by 6pm every week of your course.
Course content
The programme is about the basic skills used in counselling and gives a basic understanding of the three main schools of counselling. It also includes work to increase self-awareness. A non-qualification course that is essential for anyone considering a career in Counselling.
