About the Course

This course is suitable for you if you have a keen interest to learn about maintenance of light vehicles and the different roles that are available in the retail motor industry. It will give you knowledge and understanding of a broad range of automotive competencies. It takes a hands-on approach to training by providing you with Health and Safety practices, Foundation Skills, Personal Social Development (PSD), Mechanical, Light Vehicle, Electrical, Valeting and Electrically Propelled Awareness.

The course will enable you to develop craft and hand-skills before progressing into further learning within the automotive trades. You will develop your practical skills and enable you to demonstrate your ability to complete common tasks within the industry.

Assessment comprises of an on-screen examination and assignments/observed assessments.

During your course of study, you will be involved in demonstrations, practical work, theory lessons, computer sessions, tutorials, and project work. You will also have timetabled sessions in English, Maths, work experience and enrichment as part of your Study Programme.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above or equivalent.

Where next?

On successfully passing the course you can progress to study at Level 2 or an apprenticeship.

Work Experience and Employability

As part of the overall Study Programme you will complete 30 hours of work experience.

What additional resources will I need?

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided including safety boots, trousers and polo shirt. You would be expected to equip yourself with stationary.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
