About the course
The Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ) is different to other courses because it enables you to undertake independent research in a topic you find interesting. So, if you have ever had a secret passion to study Himalayan mountain sheep, the philosophy of Sartre, or another topic that is not covered by your A levels, then this is the course for you.
For your EPQ, you will research a subject of your own choosing, which you will then develop into either a 5,000 word report or an artefact. Alongside your research, you will document your progress in a production log, and you will communicate your findings in a presentation at the end of the course. Throughout the process, you will be supported by your supervisor thought your weekly lessons.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, with grade 5s required in English Language, English Literature and Maths. Taken with three A Levels.
The EPQ is worth 50% of an A level.
Many universities welcome the EPQ for its evidence of your ability to undertake extensive independent work and so some universities may give you a reduced university offer if you complete the EPQ.
