Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons) Top-up

This course is for people who have completed a Level 5 Foundation Degree and wish to achieve a full Level 6 BA (Hons) in Early Years.

The programme will develop your understanding of how children learn and grow, and the stages of human development. You will enhance your professional knowledge with opportunities to reflect on and improve your practice. You will also have the chance to examine UK and International Early Years policy.

This is a child-focused programme and the units you study will enrich your insights into childhood and learning. Understanding more about the policies and research that are influencing practice is a key part of being a professional practitioner. This course will prepare you for a graduate role in the workplace.

You will receive on-going tutorial support as well as academic tutorials. Our aim is for you to take responsibility for your learning and ultimately make a positive contribution to your chosen profession.

Entry requirements

Typically, you will need:

  • A Level 5 qualification such as Foundation Degree in Early Years (240 credits equivalent) or equivalent sector-endorsed qualification

  • A grade average of 55% or more across your Level 5 programme

  • A suitable work environment to fulfil the work-based requirement of the course

  • Successful DBS clearance

You should have at least two years’ experience of working or volunteering in an educational setting prior to commencing the course.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to gain Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) via a separate provider. If you wish to continue teacher training, you will be eligible to undertake a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).
