About the course

New for 2020, learn the skills to plan, produce, and edit moving image content, as well as developing the broader core skills of research, communication and teamwork. You will learn about the industry and how media products are created and used by consumers. You will then apply that knowledge to your own productions and case studies.

Projects may include: Advertising Production; Storyboarding for Digital Media; Scriptwriting; Music Video Production; Film Editing; Visual Effects; Media Representations; Working in the Creative Media Industry; Pre-Production Processes; Media Enterprise; Responding to a Commission; Short Film Production.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 including Maths and English, digital portfolio and written statement.

Where next?

You will be able to progress into higher education, such as the Higher National in Creative Media (Film Production) at New College, or a university degree, apprenticeship or employment. The course will provide you with a modern, work-related qualification with a clear purpose and defined progression route into higher education or employment. You will develop high-level skills that employers in every industry look for such as teamwork, creative thinking and presentation skills, as well as the opportunity to build independent research and study skills essential for success at university and in the workplace. Job opportunities requiring moving image production skills exist in a wide range of sectors, as well as the film and television industries.

Work experience and employability

This course does not contain a specific work experience component, but has other activities to help you develop employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies our Employability Team can help.

What additional resources will I need?

You will need to own a 32GB SD card (Class 10) and a 500GB portable hard drive.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.
