About the course

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (All 3 units listed below)

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement if for practitioners who may be using a whole variety of assessment methods in the classroom and in employment. There are a number of smaller awards sat within this main qualification and a combination of one, two or three may be taken depending on your role and needs.

Level 3 Award in understanding the principles of assessment (Unit 1) - (3 Credits)

A knowledge only Award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor (or think that this might be the way forwards) or for those who need to know about assessment practice but who are not currently practicing e.g. a starting point for aspiring assessors or a professional development qualification for managers, HR or quality assurance personnel. This can be a standalone qualification.

Assessment is through assignment, case studies and questions.

Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment Unit 2 (This Award is a combination of unit 1 & unit 2) - (9 Credits)

For practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, verbal questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and recognition of prior learning. This qualification, qualifies you to assess in the workplace and you must be assessing occupational competence in the workplace.

Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (This Award is a combination of unit 1 & unit 3) - (9 Credits)

For practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally related subject areas who use the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. This may take place in training workshops, classrooms or other learning environment.

Entry requirements

  • Specialist occupational competence to a minimum of level 3 or above (A level)
  • Literacy, numeracy and ICT at level 2 or equivalent is recommended.
  • You will need to complete a C&G skills scan as part of the induction process.
  • Please note enrolment is subject to an informal interview.

Work experience and employability

You must be working with a minimum of 2 students who are on approved qualifications in the workplace and a minimum of 2 students who are on an approved qualification in the classroom or simulated environment. You will need to be able to follow the organisations quality assurance processes and have someone to countersign your assessment decisions.
