City and Guilds Diploma in Site Carpentry (Construction) Level 2

About the Course

Skilled Carpenters and Joiners are in high demand in the construction industry. This course will give you a nationally recognised qualification that can be upgraded to an NVQ Level 2 once certain criteria have been met.

On the Site Carpentry route you will enjoy a mix of practical projects and theoretical work. Core units for the course are:

  • Health & safety and welfare in construction and associated industries.

  • Understanding information, quantities and communications with others.

Other options for the site carpentry pathway include:

  • Understanding construction technology

  • Preparing and using carpentry and joinery portable power tools

  • Carry out first fixing operations

  • Carry out second fixing operations

  • Erect structural carcassing operations

  • Carry out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work.

You will also have timetabled sessions in English and Maths, work experience and enrichment as part of your programme.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3/D and above including English and Maths, or equivalent. The fast-track option is a possibility dependent on prior knowledge and level of GCSE grades.

Where next?

Diploma Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery for higher performing students. An Apprenticeship programme if you have a work placement, returning to College on day release.

Work Experience and Employability

Work experience can be arranged through the College as part of your qualification.

What additional resources will I need?

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided including safety boots and a hi viz waistcoat. You would be expected to equip yourself with stationery.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.
