Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship

Early Years Educators are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. This is a rewarding occupation, where you can work in various settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes and as childminders.

The varied role and responsibilities of an Early Years Educator include: Planning and supervising child-initiated and adult-led activities; Supporting children to develop numeracy and language skills through games and play; Meeting the care needs of the individual child such as feeding, changing nappies and administration of medicine.

Delivery and assessment

This apprenticeship has been developed with the help of employers including: Busy Bees Childcare, Darcy Bunnie Nursery, Little Cupcakes, Hollies Day Nursery, Blossom Day Nursery, Cheeky Monkeys, The Learning Tree, Shapes Day Nursery, Holmes Park Day Nursery, First Quest Day Nursery.

You will gain a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Educator. To meet EYFS requirements you must also successfully complete the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. (RQF).

Example job roles

This apprenticeship will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills to work in a range of roles including: A Nursery Nurse, Early Years Practitioner, Childminder, Nursery Assistant.

Entry requirements

You will need to have 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, Grade 4/5 (C) or above. Some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a Level 2 qualification.

Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and have taken the test for Level 2 prior to taking their end point assessment. We will need to ensure that you have the potential to achieve the different elements that make up the apprenticeship qualification and that you are working at the right level in your job. It will be a requirement to complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and this may lead to taking some additional diagnostic assessments and skill exams.
