About the course
This course is for learners who hold a strong interest in competing in gaming tournaments. Esports (electronic sports) is competitive video gaming. This course will provide learners with the necessary skills on how to healthily compete in tournaments, setting up an esports tournament whilst considering legal and ethical issues within the industry.
The Extended Diploma is made up of 15 units, studied over 2 years including:
Included units may include: Esports Industry Knowledge, Esports Events, Esports Coaching, Nutrition for Esports Performance, Games Design, Live-Streamed Broadcasting, Sports and Esports Law and Legislation, Customer Immersion Experiences, Esports Tournament Organisation and Shoutcasting.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language and Maths or a Level 2 at Merit; GCSE (or equivalent) in ICT is recommended.
A relevant Esport, Sport, Business or Leisure degree-level course. Alternatively, learners will have developed necessary skills and knowledge that will be recognised by employers and may wish to pursue immediate careers in employment or an apprenticeship.
Work experience and employability
Learners are encouraged to undertake work experience during their time on the course. With our links to the Digital Schoolhouse esports tournament, learners will have the opportunity to manage and organise the event and be expected to attend the regional and grand final events.
What additional resources will I need?
You are expected to supply your own stationery. Learners will also require core textbooks, and portable hard-drives.
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
