About the Course

This course is designed for people who are working in a technical role within the engineering industry and are looking to obtain a vocational qualification to support their position or to progress within their organisation. If you are a trainee or an apprentice, this nationally recognised qualification equips you with the knowledge and understanding you need to develop your career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

Offering exciting opportunities in the engineering industry, this course gives you the chance to gain valuable skills and knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of engineering practices and processes in our industry standard facilities.

Whether you’re an adult, or are a school-leaver, this diploma course will help you follow your dream to become a full-time engineer. A variety of job opportunities are open to you and these include maintenance engineer, mechanical engineer, railway engineer, welder and/or fabricator, and electrical and/or electronic engineer.

In Year 1, all students will study 8 units ranging from Engineering Principles to Machining and Fabrication, as well as work experience and design. Successful study leads to the award of Foundation Diploma and access to the second year. This year allows students to specialise. Those who wish to continue higher level study will study one route whilst those preferring to look for apprenticeships/entry to work can follow another.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English, Maths and preferably Science or equivalent.

Where next?

Higher Level Engineering courses( HNC/Degree); or on to an Apprenticeship/Employment.

Work Experience and Employability

Work experience can be arranged through the College and is part of your qualification.

What additional resources will I need?

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided including safety boots and overalls. You would be expected to equip yourself with stationary.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
