About the Course
The Extended Diploma is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right if you want to progress to higher education courses in construction areas before entering employment. It can also support you if you want to progress directly to employment in job roles in construction or a professional construction role and Higher Apprenticeships in the construction sector.
It allows you to develop a substantial core of knowledge, to study in depth a full range of optional units, and to develop the broader skills highly valued by higher education institutions, such as critical thinking, and the range of written and verbal communications required in the construction sector.
Examples of units studied are construction principles, construction design, surveying in construction, graphical design, building regulations, health and safety and management of a construction project.
The three main forms of assessment for this qualification are externally assessed units, end assessments which measure your learning across a range of content and internally assessed units.
During your course of study, you will be involved in demonstrations, practical work, theory lessons, computer sessions, tutorials, and project work. You will also have timetabled sessions in English and Maths if required, work experience and enrichment as part of your Study Programme.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths and preferably Science or equivalent.
