About the course

Learn about the caring community, including various groups and organisations working with individuals with identified needs and older adults. This course is modular, recording the skills you achieve as you progress.

You can achieve a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels. You can also achieve this qualification at Level 1.

Course content includes: Effective Communication; Human Lifespan Development; Health and Social Care Values; Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing; Human Body Systems and Care of Disorders; Individual Rights in Health & Social Care; Healthy Living Projects and assignments are designed around real, practical caring situations. There are 2 externally set exams.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3/D including English and Maths or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 at Merit grade.

Where next?

This vocational course can lead to jobs such as a Health Care Assistant, Support worker, and other jobs in Health and Social Care or progression onto the Level 3 qualification.

Work experience and employability

This course does not contain a specific work experience component; but has other activities to help you develop employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies, our Employability Team can help.

What additional resources will I need?

You will be expected to cover the travel costs to your work experience placements. You may also want to buy some of the textbooks used in class or access the e-learning resources provided. You will also need to ensure that you bring the correct equipment for classroom learning.

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
