About the course

This one-year course combines IT theory with practical development of your creative skills and technical skills as a user of ICT.

The BTEC Extended Certificate at Level 2 is equivalent to 3 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above.

The units include: The Online World; Technology Systems; Digital Graphics; Spreadsheets; Digital Animation; Web Development; Software Development; Multimedia; Database Design

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs Grade 3 including English Language & Maths or successful completion of Level 1.

Where next?

This course is well suited for students who wish to progress onto a BTEC Level 3 course such as Software Development, or onto an A Level course such as Computing. If you choose to go into a job, this course has clear links to careers in computing, business administration or trainee management.

This course structure provides sufficient time for you to study GCSE qualification alongside it should you need to.

Work experience and employability

This course does not contain a specific work experience component, but has other activities to help you develop employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies, our Employability Team can help.

What additional resources will I need?

We advise you buy the course textbook. Please provide your own writing tools such as pens, pencils, rubber and ruler. You are strongly advised to purchase your own computer storage devices (such as a portable hard drive, or pen drive which is recommended).

Fees information

This course is free to students aged 16-18.

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
