About the course
This course gives you in depth study of a wide range of public service operations and opportunities to find out about jobs. There are also outdoor pursuit experiences, extensive contact with public service providers and relevant practical assignments and projects.
Modules may include:
Teamwork and leadership, Responding to major incident, Physical Preparation for the proactive services, Government, Discipline, Outdoor adventurous activities and others.
You study this course for 14 hours per week and be assessed by assignments and practical activities. You will get one grade for each unit (Distinction, Merit or Pass).
Five GCSEs Grade 4s including Maths, English Language & Science or a Level 2 at Merit.
Progress to a career in one of the Public Services – The Police, Fire Service, Prison Service, Armed Forces, Customs and Excise - or the Security Services or Probation Service. Alternatively, you can progress to a Higher Education programme including an HND in Public Services at Queens Drive.
Work experience and employability
This course does not contain a specific work experience component, but has other activities to help you develop employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies, our Employability Team can help.
What additional resources will I need?
The course will require you to meet some costs for residential experience, outdoor activities, course trips and visits (approx. cost £165 in each year).
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
