About the course

The Access Diploma Healthcare is for adults who have limited qualifications but would like to progress after completion to a degree course and pursue a career in healthcare. The course is studied full time over one year or part time over two years and learners study Biology, Sociology, Psychology and Professional Studies. There are also supplementary modules on study skills and IT to be taken. The higher education opportunities available to students include a wide range of health-related degrees or further study and professional training.

Entry requirements

You must be 19 years or over and wish to progress to university or professional training. You should have had a break from formal education for at least a year prior to starting this course. GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics are required.


Where next?

Once you have completed the Access to HE Diploma, you can progress to study a wide range of degree courses at university. During your studies, you will receive support from a personal tutor to enable you to complete your university application. Recent Access to HE Healthcare completers have progressed to study a diverse range of degree subjects, including Nursing (adult, child, mental health), Midwifery, Public Health, Paramedic Science, ODP, Diagnostic Imaging and Nutrition.

Depending on the subject choices, you may be required to purchase some texts.


Fees information

You may wish to access the Advanced Learner Loan where the Government cover the course fees, only repayable when you’re earning over £27,295. Find more information about the Advanced Learner Loan on the Government website. Loan eligibility doesn’t depend on your income and there are no credit checks.

Get your Access Diploma for free if you go on to complete a higher education course!*

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a Higher Education course. This means you don’t have to repay it.

* The Higher Education course must be eligible for student finance.
