Art: Fine Art A Level

Art: Fine Art A Level

This A Level is included within the Creative Studies A Level pathway as a Recommended Core subject. It is included in the following pathways as a Recommended Additional subject: Maths, Physics and Computer Science; Performing Arts. However, you can choose Fine Art with any A Level/equivalent combination, there is plenty of choice and flexibility.

Fine Art is a great subject to further your artistic skills. This course will enable you to extend your skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D and mixed media, photography, and digital applications.

In Year One you will explore a range of genres including still life, portraiture, and landscape. You will produce practical responses based on the work of other artists and specialise in your chosen genre as the year progresses.

Then in Year Two you will build on your skills and specialise further in your chosen genre to create a unique personal response. This will involve a separate related study and in February of Year Two you will receive the externally set task where you select a theme and create practical work in your preferred way.

You will study the course for 4.5 hours a week in the first year and 5 hours a week in the second year. You should expect to spend an additional 4.5 hours per week on homework and private study. Mock exams are held during the first year (in February/March), but do not count towards the final A Level. Exams for the whole A level are held in May or June of the second year.
