Early Years and Education T Level Foundation Year

CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) courses are national qualifications, which will give you a good foundation of knowledge in Early years and Child Care.

Gain the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to eleven years of age with applied knowledge in the early years and primary school settings. Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

There are 8 units in this qualification.

You will study several units at any one time including: Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and children in early years and primary settings; Roles and responsibilities of the educational professional; Nutrition, Play and Supporting children and young people's development.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs Grade 3 including English and Maths or successful completion of Level 1.

You will be required to obtain an enhanced DBS check before you start your placement, this cost is covered by the college.

Future career and study opportunities

Learners can enter the workforce Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or continue to study for a BTEC l3 or T-level in education and childcare, currently delivered at New College Swindon. You may find work within the Voluntary, Statutory and Private sectors. Such roles could include Nursery assistant/Classroom assistant or a Nanny.

Work experience/Careers Extra

You will be required to complete 120 hours work experience, this is a mandatory part of the course. It is broken down into 60 hours in a nursery setting and 60 hours in a primary school. You are encouraged to find your own placement but we can support you with this.

Additional resources/costs

You will be expected to have notebooks and stationary for your taught lessons. A laptop would be recommended: however, some sessions will be held in a computer classroom or one which has access to shared laptops. You will need a New College T-shirt for uniform on placement. You will be expected to cover the travel costs to your work experience placements.
