By the end of the course you will be able to:

• Define what a stoma is and which conditions may have a colostomy or ileostomy formed following resection of the bowel.

• Demonstrate cutting a templates for a stoma bag.

• Outline the difference between a different stoma bags. .

• Demonstrate changing a stoma appliance.

• Outline a range of problems that may be encountered, and the recommended problem-solving techniques.

• Demonstrate problem solving issues that arise from stoma care

• Identify the complications that require prompt medical attention.

• Discuss the non-medical attention complications, and outline care that can be delivered whilst the patient is waiting to be seen by their stoma nurse.
