Sport Level 2 Certificate

This is a one-year course, providing a great introduction to sport and a pathway to the Level 3 qualification. You will learn through both a practical and classroom-based approach, covering the skills and knowledge you need to pursue a career in this exciting sector.

This course includes seven units of study, including; Participating in Sports; Sports Coaching; Developing sporting skills and tactical awareness; Sports volunteering; Physical fitness and injuries in sport; Planning and running a sports event; Lifestyle and the Sports Performer.

You will also be able to trial for the New College Academies in Football and Basketball. Training sessions are embedded into the timetable where possible, giving you ab opportunity to enhance and develop your practical sporting skills.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including English Language, or successful completion of Level 1 in Sport at a Merit grade.

Future career and study opportunities

Successful completion of this course (at Merit or Distinction) will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 qualification in Sport.

Alternatively, you may wish to move into an apprenticeship or employment within the Leisure and Recreation industry. This may be with a Local Authority, private company or education provider.

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but does include a volunteering unit, which will enhance your employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies, our Employability Team can help.

Additional resources/costs

You will need to provide your own stationery, together with suitable sports kits. This includes moulded boots for the 3G pitch, a New College Swindon sports top and indoor footwear for use in the sports hall/gym.
