Science T Level Foundation Year
T-Level Science Foundation Level 2 course is to provide students with a solid foundation in science, preparing them for level 3 study program in STEM. The course aims to develop students' scientific knowledge, skills, and understanding, while also fostering their ability to apply scientific principles to real-world situations.
Specifically, the course intends to achieve the following objectives:
Develop scientific knowledge: The course covers fundamental concepts, theories, and principles across various scientific disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Students gain a broad understanding of scientific concepts and their interconnections.
Enhance practical skills: Practical skills are emphasized to enable students to conduct scientific investigations, carry out experiments, collect and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions. This hands-on approach helps develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and experimental design abilities.
Foster scientific literacy: The course aims to enhance students' scientific literacy by encouraging them to read, interpret, and evaluate scientific information from a variety of sources. This includes understanding scientific terminology, interpreting data, and critically analysing scientific claims.
Promote interdisciplinary learning: T-Level Science Foundation Level 2 encourages students to recognize the interconnectedness of different scientific disciplines. It emphasizes the integration of knowledge from multiple areas to solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
To provide a way for students to gain the qualifications (GSCE English or Maths higher level 5 or above and GCSE Physics , Chemistry or Biology to a grade 5 or higher), and skills to go onto a level 3 STEM program including t-level laboratory science at New College Swindon.
To develop key employability skills to be used both in the Foundation year and in further progression onto a level 3 programs.
The content of the programme has been adapted to meet the needs of this cohort of students by:
The students will elect to improve their GCSE grades in either English or maths and Biology or chemistry
A bespoke study skills and employability program is developed
A bespoke course on running and developing a scientific project which cover the core 4 t-level science foundation outcomes and results in a Gold Crest Award.
Entry requirements
Maths or English at grade 4 and GCSE combined science at 4, 4 triple at 434. Intention to enter to progress onto a level 3 STEM course at New College.
Future career and study opportunities
They would then have their GCSE's at a level to progress onto a t-level Laboratory science Stem level 3 A level program or a stem apprenticeship in Laboratory science to become a laboratory technician.
