Plasterer Level 2 Apprenticeship

Plastering is a core function within the construction sector, particularly the house building sector and refurbishment sectors. The Government has a target to build significantly more new homes over the coming years and therefore the demand for plasterers has never been higher.

The broad purpose of this occupation is to apply layers of plaster onto walls, floors and ceilings. In this apprenticeship, you will specialise in either Solid or Fibrous plaster work after undertaking the core learning, which includes introductory elements in both these areas.

Delivery and assessment

As a plasterer, you will interact with many different customers, other trades, architects and site managers. You could be working on a range of projects from small-scale domestic jobs to large repair and restoration projects. Some plasterers are employed directly by specialist companies, while others are sub-contracted.

Plasterers are needed throughout the building industry on projects and developments of all sizes.

Pay and training

As an apprentice, you’ll get:

  • paid and be entitled to at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices

  • time for training or study as part of your apprenticeship

  • holiday pay and other employee rights.

At least six hours per week of your normal working hours must be spent on training. Your training might happen every week, every month or in a separate block of time.

Entry requirements

Employers will set their own requirements for their apprentices. However, if you don’t hold at least a GCSE Grade 4 in English and maths (or equivalent), you will be required to study functional skills as part of your apprenticeship.
