If you love working with animals and want to enhance your skills and knowledge in animal care, then this is the course for you.
You will take part in practical lessons to develop your animal handling techniques, such as learning how to feed and meet the needs of animals. The course also covers estate maintenance skills, such as the upkeep of animal accommodation and repairing fencing.
Your training will be based at our Animal Centre and will include both practical and theory-based assignments. Out of the 10 hours you will attend college each week, you will spend six undertaking hands on activities. The other time will be spent studying theory units to further develop your knowledge and personal skills.
You will complete all your assignments in class, with support from your tutor. There are no exams on this course. You will also have plenty of opportunities to speak with local employers and businesses in the animal care industry – supporting your journey to an exciting career in animal care and handling.
You will need two or more GCSEs at grade 3-1/D-E or above, together with a genuine passion for animals and their care.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care. Alternatively, you may wish to move into an apprenticeship in this sector – for example as an Animal Care and Welfare Assistant or Dog Groomer.
