To gain the BTEC Level 4 HNC in Mechanical Engineering for England, students complete a minimum of 120 credits across both Core and Specialist Mandatory units which include:
Unit 4001: Engineering Design (15)
Unit 4002: Engineering Maths (15)
Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project (15)
Unit 4008: Mechanical Principles
Unit 4011: Fluid Mechanics
Unit 4013: Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
Unit 4014: Production Engineering for Manufacture
Unit 4017: Quality and Process Improvement.

a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering
a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile should be supported by a minimum grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and English
other related Level 3 qualifications
an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution
relevant work experience, or
an international equivalent to the above qualifications.
Mature students without formal academic qualifications but with relevant industry/subject experience will be considered on an individual basis.
If your first language is not English, we accept IELTS (Academic) at grade 6 overall with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking).
We require evidence of international qualifications at point of application. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to consider applicants that require a Student Visa to study in the UK.
Assessment is carried out through a combination of written assignments, project work, presentations and practical tasks. There are no formal written exams. Students are encouraged to relate assessments to their professional experience or workplace projects wherever possible, ensuring learning remains relevant and applied.
The Level 4 Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding on which students can build should they decide to continue their studies beyond the Certificate stage. On successful completion of the Level 4 Higher National Certificate, students can develop their careers in the sector through:

linking with the appropriate professional body
committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
