Art, Design and Media Practice Level 3/4 BTEC Foundation Diploma

Art, Design and Media Practice Level 3/4 BTEC Foundation Diploma

The Foundation Diploma is a highly intensive but rewarding course for students wishing to develop and hone their artistic/designer skills and professional aspirations. It is a very practical course, requiring a self-motivation and real passion for the subject.

This course will prepare you for entry into Higher Education Art and Design courses, or for employment in this industry via other routes. You will have the opportunity to explore various creative areas including: Fine Art; Fashion & Textiles; Graphics; Illustration; Printmaking; 3D & Sculpture.

You will begin with the ‘exploratory stage’, during which you will be introduced to a range of techniques and processes via workshops and project briefs. You will then be able to identify which specialist pathway you want to focus on or continue to work across multiple areas.

In the second ‘confirmatory’ stage, you will produce a final major project, a review and an exhibition. These will draw on the skills, knowledge and techniques you have developed throughout the course.

This is a full-time course consisting of 13 guided hours a week. You will be supported with weekly tutorials and group critiques to aid you studies and progress.

Entry requirements

You need to be at least 18 years old. You must have five GCSE passes at grades 9-4/A-C (which must include Maths and English) and two A-Levels at grade C (one of which should be in an art-related subject). You will also need to take part in a portfolio interview before starting the course.

Future career and study opportunities

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your own work and create a strong portfolio. Once successfully completed, you will be able to progress onto a range of Higher Education courses or access other training and employment opportunities within the creative industries.

Additional resources/costs

Materials for workshops are provided but you will need to supply your own sketchbooks and a personal art kit. You can purchase the art kit from Artway or you can create your own.
