Media make-up is a rapidly growing profession within the film, industry TV and theatre, media, fashion and photography industries. There are increasing career opportunities, while new demands challenge the profession to high levels of creativity and expertise.
Level 2 Diploma in Media Makeup is a visual and exciting course giving you a taster into the world of a makeup artist. This is suitable for all students who have a passion for Fashion, TV, Film and Theatrical Make-up and production arts.
You will be involved with lots of exciting, highly practical projects, live briefs, shows and lessons throughout your course. This course is made up of a selection of practical skills, written work and portfolio work and is a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts Industry skills with a makeup pathway.
You will be using a wide variety of professional hair and make-up materials, tools and equipment throughout your course during your lessons and at college events. You will also work regularly with the Creative Faculty to assist in productions, competitions and external events. We organise various trips throughout the academic year that will allow you to develop as a make �up artist. You will be asked to contribute towards the costs of these trips.
The course topics are as follows:
Cosmetic makeup
Photographic make-up and fashion makeup
Fantasy hair and makeup
Professional development plan
Theatrical makeup
Face painting
Themed hair and makeup for photoshoots/productions
Basic special effects
You will be taught for 10 hours a week over 36 weeks. All units are assessed in a variety of ways: sketchbooks, written work, practical working, presentations
You will need the minimum of four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English language and Maths; we will also consider a creative portfolio.
This course gives you progression options such as the Level 3 BTEC Production Arts Practice (Make-up) course.
There is a makeup kit that needs to be purchased (the cost is approximately �240). There will also be trip opportunities/competitions throughout the year and costs for these will be given at the time.
This course is free to students aged 16-18.
Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
